Chicago 1940

"I Know Two Cities Named: Chicago"

There is a strange gap, resting
between the world + the waters that
made my body, and
the clouds + world that create my longings

I walk up to the edge of the void
you, sweet dark city, wait for me there
pushing your self out onto old dreams,
just beyond the perimeter.
With my memories well sharpened
I push inward their blade
+ open my ribcage. Showcasing:
Blood, Bones, Lungs, Colors
My colors begin to spin faster
and all burns hot white light.
- I cannot sustain -
Even mere moments of the cosmic wear me down

I walk to the edge of the waters,
and watch strangers swim
out into that vast ebbing world
that I can only ever pretend
to know
